Causes of Mental Health Problems in Children
In modern times, while
technology plays an important role in making human life easier, technology is
also a cause of mental problems. Numerous studies have shown that excessive use
of technology by young or older children can lead to irritability and mental
health problems. However, there is another common cause of mental health
problems in older children, which parents ignore. A UK study has found that sleeping
sickness is one of the leading causes of mental problems, depression,
irritability, and anxiety in older children.
In modern times,
children usually spend a lot of time on the computer or mobile phone or
sometimes they fall asleep late and wake up early. Apparently, parents and
children think less sleep is good for the future for the sake of education, but
research has shown that not getting enough and complete sleep for any purpose
causes mental problems in older children.
British psychologists
and pediatricians have examined a wide range of children's routines to find out
the causes of depression, anxiety, irritability, and anger in older children. A
study by experts found that older children who do not get enough sleep for any
reason begin to developmental problems at an early age. Experts examined the
sleep habits of about 5,000 teenagers, who found that children who sleep too
long but do not get enough sleep also suffer from mental health problems.
Similarly, children
who are full and quiet but sleep less also suffer from irritability, stress and
mental thirst in their teens. Research has shown that children who do not get
enough sleep for 7 hours a day are more likely to develop mental health
problems. According to experts, children between the ages of 14 and 17 should
get 8 to 9 hours of restful and complete sleep.
